It was an eventful day on Thursday the 10th of November 2022. We had the pleasure of hosting a Women In Energy Network Session at the Energy Sustainability Conference hosted by Energy Institute Nigeria. Following the event was WIEN’s Inaugural Annual General Meeting; a hybrid event (online and physical) that conveyed live participants online from 16 other countries. This year’s Energy Sustainability Conference; Driving a Sustainable Energy Future, lay emphasis on the need to reevaluate strategies in order to transform the future of energy in Nigeria, and all of Africa. Limited access to good education and venture capital, gender and cultural bias, and social stereotype form key inhibitors to proportionate female representation in the petroleum industry. And until workplace gender imbalances are addressed, the current effort for the growth and development of the sector will remain an idle fancy.
